“We are not just building rental units; we are shaping the future of how communities live, interact, and thrive in Ontario. The Town Centre Place development is a testament to our commitment to sustainable, high-quality living and our role as a reliable partner in urban development.”

Hans Jain, President of Atria Development Corp.

Atria Development Corp., a leader in purpose-built rental housing, proudly announces the ground-breaking of the Town Centre Place development, a monumental project in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). The project is the single largest purpose-built rental development to begin construction in the GTHA in 2023 or 2024. With nearly 1600 units, this development marks a significant investment in the local community and a bold step towards addressing the housing supply demand in Toronto.

More than fifteen years in the making, the Town Centre Place project embodies Atria’s commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable living spaces. This development is not just a building; it’s a commitment to the future of urban living, featuring one of the largest geothermal installations in a Canadian residential building. This innovative approach is expected to achieve a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a 40% reduction in annual energy consumption.

The first phase of the project, encompassing 900 beautifully appointed units coming to market in 2027, represents a $500 million investment, setting a new standard for residential projects in the region. Town Centre Place is ideally situated across the street from Canada’s fifth largest mall, Scarborough Town Centre, the biggest retail destination in the city’s east end. The location offers easy access to Toronto’s forthcoming TTC Line 2 extension and Highway 401, as well as many shops, restaurants, entertainment and parks.

The first phase comprises a 38-storey tower and a 40-storey tower, with a shared podium. Along with its impressive scale and sustainability features, the Town Centre Place development will also offer a range of amenities, including a gym, spin studio, sauna, basketball half-court, banquet hall, kid’s play zone, workshop, theatre, games room, outdoor garden terraces and courtyards. In its second phase, Town Centre Place will include a daycare facility and public plazas, further enriching the community.

Atria’s ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Premier Doug Ford, Associate Minister of Housing Rob Flack, and MPP David Smith, highlighting the collaborative efforts to make this visionary project a reality.

“Congratulations to the Atria team on today’s ground-breaking, which will result in more than 1,600 purpose-built rental units at Town Centre Place in Scarborough. Our government is making sure we have the homes Ontario needs by cutting the red tape, taxes and government fees that stand in the way of new housing. We’re going to keep fighting to get shovels in the ground so more Ontario families can find a home they can afford.”
Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario
“This is an impressive investment in the community that will benefit the people of Scarborough for decades to come. We’re looking at a project that will build homes for thousands of people, while using geothermal technology that will reduce the building’s carbon footprint and lower energy costs for residents.”
Rob Flack, Associate Minister of Housing
